Shortly before 3 a.m. on Friday, March 8, officers from the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Bruce Avenue and Radford Street in Yonkers, where there were reports of a man who had been hit by a car.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found 23-year-old Yonkers resident Jesus Angel Villaneuva, who was down in the roadway with serious injuries. Villaneuva was treated at the scene and transported to a local trauma center for treatment, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation into the crash led to detectives interviewing subjects and witnesses, reviewing surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence. Police said that the investigation determined that Villaneuva was hit by a gray four-door passenger sedan near the intersection. The driver then took off without stopping.

Over the weekend, Yonkers Police Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos announced that they’ve arrested Yonkers resident John Martinez, 25, who was located in Connecticut on Saturday, April 6. Politopoulos noted that his Honda has been recovered as evidence.
